What I Learned From Michelle Obama’s ‘Becoming’

It was a GORGEOUS Day in Washington, DC and a beautiful evening for an intimate conversation with First Lady Michelle Obama! She exudes grace, style, and class and it was an honor to be in her presence. I was all ears!

Mrs. Obama was funny and relatable sharing her story. Her upbringing was similar to mine. Our respective families were expected (required) to eat together at dinner. There was no watch television and eat later with my parents. We sat down at the same time for dinner and conversation. Our parents were hard working and instilled the value of education and integrity.

We both thought outside the box to carve our own path. She went to schools outside of her neighborhood to gain new exposure then attended Harvard University. I moved to Washington, DC to work in the United States Senate then decided to start my own business.

Mrs. Obama is a fantastic storyteller and shared how she met President Obama and her first impression of him. She’s quite humorous and I won’t spoil it for you. You have to read the book, listen to the audio, or see her live.

The valauable takeaway for me was her insight on creating balance in your life. Juggling work, home, children, marriage, and relationships impact your physical and mental health. You can easily lose yourself taking care of others and self-care is crucial. You also have to be honest about your own faults and incorporate changes to see a difference. It’s easy to blame others but you are ultimately responsible for your own stability. Pamper and be kind to yourself. Balanced living leads to joy.

Becoming new book tour dates have been announced. Arrive early to enjoy her musical selection of pre-show jams! You can order the book now on Amazon.
